    Gear Material and Lubrication Management of Rod Mill

    In order to ensure the longer service life of the big and small gears and higher working performance of the rod mill, gear material selection and lubrication management is of great importance. The selection of gear material and lubrication must be appropriate, since it has an obvious influence on the normal work of big and small gears.

    1. The selection of gear material

    The damage of big and small edge-transmission gears is mainly attributed to tooth surface abrasion and bending fracture. So gear material is required to have enough strength, high wear resistance and excellent processability. At present, big gear ring is generally made of ZG270~500 or ZG310~570, and small gear is made of 35SiMn, 45MnB, 40Cr and etc.

    2. Tooth form and tooth number

    The current design has begun to use profile shifted gear which can improve slip ratio and carrying capacity. Besides, the gear with more teeth and less modules is better. Here we recommend adopting a meshing angle of 25° and deflection serrated form to improve running stability, lighten weight, reduce the bending stress on tooth root and cut down the cost.

    3. Big and small gear lubrication

    Oil pump spray lubrication: Because it adopts gear pump to supply oil, so only thin oil is available, which is easy to make the big and small gears and oil pump worn. And the sealing of gear cover is not good enough and liable to entering into dust. Moreover, it is inconvenient to maintain.

    Big gear ring with oil lubrication: This type of lubrication needn't any lubricating device, only by using the bottom of big gear cover as oil pool. This is the simplest and most widely used way, but with the worse lubrication effect.

    Tanker with oil lubrication: It overcomes the disadvantages of big gear ring with oil lubrication, easy to maintain and free from oil leakage. It is a good way of lubrication.
