    Performance Features of High Manganese Steel and Its Application in Roll Crusher

    High manganese steel is a common material used in roller crusher for casting the toothed plate of the crushing machine. Regarding its features, this paper mainly introduces and analyzes its application in roll crusher.

    High manganese steel can be divided into common high manganese steel, alloying high manganese steel and microalloying manganese steel and the main shop sign of common high manganese steel is ZGMnl3(C 0.95%~1.4%, Mn 11%~14%) and the as-cast structure of high manganese steel is austenite plus carbide. Due to the existence of carbide, the material tenacity is weak. Generally speaking, it needs water toughening, which means heating the casting to 1050~1100℃ and then cooling it with water to gain single austenite tissue which has high tenacity. Under the effect of applied stress, in the working process of high manganese steel wear resistant part, it will have work hardening and the surface hardness will increase. The practical application result shows that the higher the applied stress on the high manganese steel wear resistant part is, the better the work hardening effect will be. The abrasive resistance will improve along with the surface hardness, but the work hardening effect is not obvious when the stress is low and the abrasive resistance will be also reduced.

    To improve the work hardening effect of high manganese steel, generally speaking, a certain amount of alloying element will be added and the manganese amount will also be reduced to form casting medium manganese steel. The tissue of the manganese steel after water toughening is austenite. Due to the reduced alloying element, the alloying element that is melted in the austenite will also reduce, which will reduce the stability of the austenite, so that the manganese steel will have good work hardening effect even when the applied stress is low. The main shop sign of casting medium manganese steel is ZGMn8 and ZGMn8Cr2.

    For this reason, as a material used for making the roller toothed plate, different types of manganese steel materials should be chosen according to the stress of the crushing conditions. When used for crushing big-sized and hard materials, the impacting stress will be high, and common manganese steel can be used for the casting and the work hardening advantage of high manganese steel can be given to full play and improve the abrasion resistance and service life of the toothed plate. When used for crushing small-sized materials or the impacting stress is low, carbon cast steel, medium manganese or alloy steel can be used for casting the toothed plate.
