    The Material Selection for Spare Parts of Jaw Crusher

    (1) Impact load

    The bigger the machine is, the heavier the quick-wear parts will be; the bigger the materials to be crushed is, the bigger the impact load on the machine will be. For this reason, we should first ensure the tenacity of the materials, and improve the hardness of the spare parts on the premise of ensuring tenacity. Then choosing high manganese steel will be the best, as its tenacity can ensure the safe operation of the machine and can provide sufficient hardness. As for the jaw crusher that is frequently used, the impact load on the quick-wear parts is not big, so that adopting high manganese steel will be difficult for work hardening. For this reason, under this working condition, choosing high manganese is not suitable; generally medium-carbon low-alloy steel or high chromium cast steel or low-alloy steel composite material will be perfect and can gain good technical and economic benefits.

    (2) The composition and hardness of the materials

    Researches show that when the hardness of the metal materials is higher than 0.8 of the hardness of the abrasive materials; with the increase of the relative hardness, the abrasive resistance of the materials will increase. For this reason, when choosing materials for the quick-wear parts of jaw crusher, the higher the hardness of the materials is, the higher the requirement for the materials for the quick-wear parts will be. So we should try to choose high hard materials on the condition of satisfying the tenacity requirement.

    (3) The worn mechanism of quick-wear parts

    If the wear is mainly cutting wear, we should first consider hardness when choosing materials; if the wear is mainly plastic deformation wear, we should first consider the plasticity and tenacity when choosing materials. For example, the movable jaw and fixed jaw of jaw crusher, the abrasion for the former is mainly hitting wear, and the abrasion for the latter is mainly cutting abrasion, for this reason, when choosing materials, the material selection for movable jaw should first consider tenacity, and for fixed jaw should first consider hardness. In this way, the two jaw plates with the texture of different performance will reach synchronized operation.
